Welcome! My name is Maria Elena Nicolaidou, and I am the ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher at Belleville School #10. I am very excited to be a part of the School Ten Family, and I look forward to a successful school year!
I arrived in the United States from Cyprus when I was nine years old with no knowledge of the English language. As a former English language learner, I can relate to the challenges and cultural differences that many English language learners face today in their own classroom environment. I intend to reach all students with diverse needs, disabilities, and language needs. Understanding students’ cultural background and diverse needs through student-teacher interactions and student-centered learning is an important part of my teaching identity. At Montclair State University, I obtained my Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics. I am dually certified in P-12 Teacher of English as a Second Language (TESL) and Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD). During my previous experience working as a teacher intern at Belleville School #8, I worked in a small group setting with English language learners and students with disabilities. In my spare time, I love traveling, working out, and visiting my family back in Cyprus.
The ESL/ELL program is designed to develop students’ English language proficiency in all four language modalities: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Strengthening proficiency in both these expressive and receptive domains will enable English language learners to be successful in all content areas.
I look forward to working with your child this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at email@example.com. You may also download the mobile app, TalkingPoints for Parents, to contact me. My code is CM67V2.
